New Traditions, Lifelong Memories: Takodah’s 109th Summer Recap

The 109th summer at YMCA Camp Takodah was one to remember. Despite record temperatures, our campers truly embodied resiliency. We beat the heat together by hydrating, plunging into the cool water of Cass Pond, running through sprinklers, drinking plenty of water, and enjoying the shade. This summer, 1,268 campers spent their summer in the woods of Richmond, New Hampshire, trying new things, stepping away from their screens, and making lifelong friends.

We got up to all sorts of fun things at camp. Introducing new tournament days during our in-session weekends is a true highlight! From epic pirate battles and the Intergalactic Olympics at South Village to the dramatic Battle of the Northlands and a trip back to the Gold Rush in North Village, these days were filled with friendly competition, excitement, and unforgettable camaraderie as camper captains rallied their teams. Congratulations to… South Village’s S1-Red River Rovers, S2-Neptune (Blue), S3-Red River Rovers, and S4-Mars (Red). As well as North Village’s S1-Green Vipers, S2-Red Nobels, S3-Blue Stallions, and S4-Yellow Bards! We can’t wait to see the competition ramp up next summer!

Beyond the tournaments, our campers bravely took on tons of new activities. They learned to navigate our new sailboats across Cass Pond, conquered the rock wall, biked the trails on and around Takodah, and explored their creative side in our new ceramics studio. We sang and danced in the dining hall, whether during dining hall disco or epic spill tray songs. Our overnights and trips spiced up the sessions, offering a taste of the adventure.

Campers challenged themselves with hikes up Mount Monadnock, slept under the stars on D-Field, and shared quiet, meaningful moments over warm, overnight mac and cheese. And who could forget the talent shows? Takodah Showcases and Cabarets were the perfect places to show the talent and joy brought forth by campers and staff alike. Candlelights under the stars helped us reflect on our time together as a community and gave us time to prepare for the types of people we will be in the outside world. We even added a new tradition to the CT Ceremony, celebrating those who receive their 5th CT and join the Red Border Club. Seeing so many of our dedicated campers recognized in front of the whole community was an incredibly moving moment and a true testament to the lasting impact Takodah has on young lives.

We are so grateful for the strong community we are all a part of. Thank you to every camper, staff member, and family for making the 2025 season so magical. We see that Takodah campers are gaining the confidence and the sense of community needed to make a real difference in the world. The bonds forged here are real, and the memories will last a lifetime. Until we gather again next summer, remember to live with honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility, and to always be “Friendly to All.” We can’t wait to welcome you home for the 110th summer next year!

In Friendship,
