Years at Camp: 1997-2007 and a return in 2009
CT: 11
LIT Year: 2003
Staff Positions held at Takodah:
I was a Cabin Leader, LIT Leader, and Master of the Hobby Dome.
How were you introduced to Takodah?
A friend of mine, Guy Oldaker, had gone to Family Camp and recommended it!
Did you attend college and, if so, where and what did you study?
Yes, I attended Trinity College for Mechanical Engineering.
What do you do for work?
I am a Professional Engineer working in the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) Field.
What moment in your career are you most proud of?
Getting my Engineering License and using it to design my friend’s shops and sister’s house.
Did your time at Takodah influence your career? If so, how?
100%. I attribute Takodah as a major part of my social development and I don’t think I’d be the person I am without it. Working at Takodah was also my first experience with feeling personally responsible in my work and taught me to be more selfless and committed in work I am passionate about.
Are there any skills or traits that you gained at Takodah which you use in your professional life?
I learned that often life isn’t just about having fun yourself, but making sure those around you have as good a time as possible too. And in teaching the younger generation how to be better cabin leaders, I learned a lot about how to communicate with colleagues and manage people like people and not like cogs in a machine.
Are there any specific memories from your time at Takodah that are still impactful to you?
There’s so much about camp I genuinely loved and will treasure. But one of the most impactful moments for me is a personal failure. One summer, for ghost court cover, I had helped concoct a cover story that if enough Milk cartons were collected, Corbin Bleu would perform a surprise concert at camp. I tried to play it up as ridiculous and make it obvious that this was not true, but when you hear 200 little girls’ hearts break in unison upon realization that there was no Corbin Bleu, my heart broke too. I don’t think I’ve ever tried to pull anything like that again.
